Mr. Charles Kelly Barrow is a native Georgian, born in Atlanta, raised in DeKalb County and the Tucker area. As a child, his interest in the War was influenced by the stories he heard from his parents and grandparents.
He attended DeKalb College where he took classes under Coach Tommy Barber. It was Coach Barber who encouraged him to attend Shorter College and ultimately become a teacher. He graduated from Shorter College in 1988 with a B.S. in Social Science. He obtained his M.A. in Social Studies, History and Education from Piedmont College and his Ed.S in Administration from Lincoln Memorial University. He teaches Social Studies at Luella Middle School and currently resides in Griffin, Georgia with his wife, Cassie.
In 1979, he joined the Sons of Confederate Veterans. During his 27 years as a member, he has served in many capacities on the local, state and national levels. Currently Kelly is the Commander of the Army of Tennessee.
In addition to the SCV, Kelly serves participates in many other historical organizations and trusts. To name a few, Kelly is currently the Vice-President of the Pike County Historical Society. He is the youngest commissioner ever appointed to the Georgia Civil War Commission. He is co-chairman of the Education Committee of the Nash Farm Battlefield. Kelly sits on the Board of Trustees of Shorter College.
Kelly is not only the author of these books but of numerous other historical articles and pamphlets on Southern History. He is available for speaking engagements. Kelly does not charge a speaker's fee, but he does request that all travel expenses be covered. Please feel free to contact him for further information regarding this.
